Pedaling Backwards

As I was biking to school this morning, I saw one of my professors walking in the same direction.  I slowed down and said hello, then continued on my way.  In order to regain the lost speed, I pedaled harder.  Unfortunately, my left foot slipped when it was in the front.  This caused the pressure of a fast pedaling in the right foot to continue downward, only this time in the opposite direction.  Since there are no gears for biking backwards, it went much faster than it would for going forward.  And combining this with the fact that my left foot was no longer on the pedal, it resulted in a pedal going very quickly into my left shin.

It hurt.  A lot.  Still does.

Book Sale

The Classics department is doing an early spring cleaning, and each faculty member is going through the respective library and finding space by removing unwanted books.  The combined result is a stack of hundreds of Classics books, all of which have been donated to the Classical Studies Association for a book sale.  Of course, this means that I get to orchestrate the whole thing.

Yes, I get to put on a giant book sale of hundreds of books I want to own.  I get the feeling something bad might happen.  I might need some more bookshelves.

Hot Piano Action

The title is a pun!  Get it?

I have finally gotten my piano felts, so the action in now sitting on my desk, ready for disassembly.  The whole process should take at least a week, entailing a lot of monotonous and tedious work, so as you could imagine, I’m really excited.  I even cleaned my room extensively and have set up a magical workplace.  I’ll post pictures when I start working on things.

Clutter

Since I’ll soon be using my desk as a workbench to fix my piano action, I spent a while cleaning it this afternoon.  It always amazes me how much junk I manage to collect, yet it remains hidden due to my ridiculous ability to keep things organized.  I found a cookie fortune that reads, “An alien of some sort will be appearing to you shortly!”  I noticed a year of scribbles on paper, many of which are probably better blog ideas than this one.  I also finally found the Picnic Day parade application which is due tomorrow.

My organization sometimes makes it hard for me to find things.

Blag

Maybe I should blag today.

My apathy toward this challenge amazes me.  Anyone else feel the same way?

(Correct answer: anyone reading this post)

Sandwiches!

In an effort to appease a certain vegetarian, I’ve been trying to think up more food options that don’t require meat.  I made a rather delicious sandwich yesterday that fills that requirement.  I wish I had a picture, but I’m just going to have to explain what I did.

Get a delicious baguette, cut it into foot long pieces.  Butterfly the pieces, then lightly toast them.  Rub the insides with half a clove of garlic.  Cover one side of each with slices of brie, then put back in the oven to melt.  Put on tomatoes, avocado, sprouts, and whatever seasonings you feel like.  Eat.

Man, I love brie.  That might have been what I liked.

Pizza

I had to share a pizza kitchen with hippies today.  Vegan pizzas are not delicious.  They are weird.  I am exhausted and tired of being frustrated.

Hairdo

After over a month of sheer laziness, I finally decided to put gel in my hair today.  It wasn’t until I did this and looked in the mirror that I realized I really do have a faux-hawk.  I think this needs to change.  As of tomorrow, I will either have a buzz cut, the mohawk again, or maybe venture into the trihawk.

Laundry

I finally got around to folding my underwear this afternoon.  Once I was done, I noticed a small Smartwool sock at the bottom of the pile, unlike any I own.  I assume this is David’s, but I’m very curious as to how a single sock of his managed to get its way into my laundry pile.

Belated Christmas Present

For the second time in the history of our relationship, Jayna has had to get me an alternate Christmas present due to the first one being found already opened and in use by someone other than me.  I received the package this afternoon, a slight few days after Christmas.

I cut open the elongated package to see the box of a mandoline slicer, a particular kitchen item I have wanted for quite some time now.  Sweet! I thought to myself.  I was just thinking I should get one of these.  It will come in handy.

Then I realized it was probably just the box that Jayna used, since a mandoline slicer would be a weird (but practical) Christmas present (not unlike mini Maglites…).  It wasn’t until I read the card that I realized my first response was the correct one.  She really did get me a mandoline slicer.

Come to think of it, it’s not all that strange.  I mean, I did get a knife sharpener from my parents.
