I think I sleepwalk.
Much to my dismay, I generally have to work Saturday mornings. I’m never happy about this, but I do it anyway to keep getting paid. I need to be in the office by 8:45, so that means leaving my place at 8:00 at the latest. Because of my sporadic and illogical OCD, I generally set alarm times that end in :45, so my Saturday alarm goes off at 6:45 a.m. Or at least it’s supposed to.
Several weeks ago, I woke up around 8:15. It was one of those moments where your brain tries to process what time it should be with the amount of sunlight in the room and things just don’t add up. I was positive I set my alarm, and my phone was still on the clock screen when I unlocked it. I didn’t remember turning the alarm off, but I either did that or simply made a mistake setting it.
This morning, a very similar thing happened. Since that time, I’ve been very paranoid about setting my alarm. I turn the alarm on, lock the phone, check the alarm symbol in the corner, unlock it, ensure it is correctly set, then lock it again. My alarm was definitely set for 6:45 a.m.
However, when I woke up at 8:13 a.m., my brain was once again in the confused state of processing the surroundings. When I unlocked my phone, instead of seeing the alarm screen, I saw the stopwatch screen, with the time running at 02:54:14.2 (I stopped it for posterity and blogging — two things which don’t generally coincide for me). This means that I started the stopwatch around 5:20 a.m., far earlier than my alarm was set to go off. If everything adds up, I must have woken up early, turned off my alarm, turned on the stopwatch, and went back to sleep.
I think I’m gong crazy.
