A little better question might be “Who is on the tables?” The answer to that is simple: Socrates. Now, the chances that anyone reading this has read Plato’s Apology is slim in itself, but adding to that the likelihood that anyone has read it in the original Greek makes it slim to none. Let me enlighten you.
In 17c8, Socrates claims that his accusers have heard him speaking in the agora, near the banker’s tables.
In the Greek, it says, “ἐν ἀγορᾷ ἐπὶ τῶν τραπεζῶν.”
The preposition ἐπί is likely translated as “near” or “around” in this context. However, the most common translation is “on” or “on top.” Hence, I always find it funny to picture crazy old Socrates on the tables in the middle of the town center.
So why a new blog? Well, the answer to that question is simple as well: Jayna. She always complains about the comment system on my old blog. I’ve felt it’s time for a change. I’d like to get this thing slightly more serious and professional looking. And if Ben ever gets around to giving me my prize money, I’ll have an extra $17 or so to splurge on something pretty. Although, the chances of Ben actually giving out the money are less likely than Socrates literally standing on the tables. I guess that means I’ll have only a moderately improved blog for the time being.
Your mom’s on the tables!
You and your maturity. I hope you appreciate the beautiful comment system. Keep in mind the whole redesign is because of you.
Well done, and welcome to WordPress. Far preferable to blogspot if you ask me. Its got some awesome plugins, and its relatively easy to work with, and the comments are…well…superior.
My only problem is that they sneakily make you pay for everything. Monetarily, that is. Blogspot just made you pay emotionally.
If you do the non-hosted version, you can find someplace to host your own site, and then everything is free.
The name makes me think of Sur La Table, which I guess would be a close literal translation from French. Regardless it’s a nice clean name, and yes much better than blogger.
Good call. I’ll look into that eventually. Once I find some more time in my life to waste.
